Newest Starlink dish in 2026: Standard 4, 4 X, V5, Mini and Performance decoded

Older reviews say Gen 2, Gen 3 and Actuated; the order page says Standard 4 X and V5. Here is how the names line up, and which ones are sold new today.

By Which Starlink Published Updated Facts checked 7 min read

As of Nov 4, 2026, the newest Starlink home dish is the V5, which Starlink says is “currently available in select areas”. Standard 4 X, which Starlink also calls the V4, is the dish many older guides call “Gen 3”. The Mini and the Performance Kit are separate lines, sold with Roam plans in the US.

The current US line-up

starlink.com’s US plan cards, read Nov 4, 2026 with no address entered, offered these kits:

Name on starlink.com Also known as Sold with Price Router or Wi-Fi
Standard 4 X Starlink V4; “Gen 3” in older guides Residential plans $349 Router 3: tri-band Wi-Fi 6, rated for 3,200 sq ft and 235 devices
Standard 4 Same dish as Standard 4 X, smaller router Residential plans $349 Router Mini: dual-band Wi-Fi 6
Starlink V5 No older name; sold in select areas Residential plans $349 Router Mini
Starlink Mini The small portable dish Roam plans $149 Built-in Wi-Fi 5, rated for 1,200 sq ft and 128 devices
Performance Kit The priciest kit on the US pages Roam plans $1,999 Not covered here

A “Standard Kit” at $349 is also sold with Roam plans. Home kits are rented or bought depending on the offer at your address, and on Nov 4 every Residential option shown without an address was a rental.

Old names to new names

Reviews and forum threads use names that Starlink’s order page no longer shows. Here’s how they line up, from Starlink’s pages where possible and from older guides where not:

  • Gen 1. Older guides use it for Starlink’s original round dish. starlink.com doesn’t sell it in the US today.
  • Gen 2, or “Standard Actuated”. The rectangular dish with built-in motors that tilt it toward the sky. It isn’t sold on starlink.com in the US either. Owners still compare it with current models, as in the r/Starlink thread Gen 2 actuated vs newest gen starlink.
  • Gen 3, “Standard”, V4 and Standard 4 X. The kickstand dish. Starlink’s help center says that “Starlink V4 is the customer name for Standard 4 X.” The Gen 3 label comes from older guides, not from Starlink.
  • Standard 4. Per its spec sheet, Standard 4 has the same dish size, weight and average power draw as Standard 4 X, and ships with Router Mini instead of Router 3. Buyers ask about the split in threads such as Starlink 4 and 4 X?.
  • V5. The newest home dish. By Starlink’s spec sheets it’s smaller and lighter, and draws 35–50 W on average against 75–100 W for Standard 4 X. Starlink lists its peak at 375+ Mbps, against 400+ for Standard 4 X. The V5 vs V4 comparison covers the detail.
  • Mini and Performance. Separate lines, not generations of the home dish. The Mini is the small portable dish; the Performance Kit is the $1,999 kit sold with Roam plans.

How to tell which dish a review or listing means

Reviews rarely use the current names, so match them on the numbers Starlink publishes instead. From Starlink’s spec sheets, read Nov 4, 2026:

Clue Standard 4 X / Standard 4 V5 Mini
Dish size 594 × 383 × 39.7 mm (23.4 × 15.1 × 1.5 in) 384 × 306 × 34 mm (15.1 × 12 × 1.3 in) 298.5 × 259 × 38.5 mm (11.75 × 10.2 × 1.45 in)
Dish weight 2.9 kg (6.4 lb) 1.1 kg (2.4 lb) 1.10 kg (2.43 lb)
Average power 75–100 W 35–50 W 25–40 W
Router Router 3 (4 X) or Router Mini (4) Router Mini Wi-Fi built in

A review of a dish about 23 inches long with a kickstand and Router 3 is talking about Standard 4 X. One built around a 15-inch dish is the V5. If a review mentions motors that tilt the dish, it describes an older design that starlink.com doesn’t sell in the US today, and its speed or power findings may not carry over to what you’d order now.

Which one you’ll be offered

For a home, your address usually decides. starlink.com’s Residential plan cards carry three home dishes, Standard 4 X, Standard 4 and V5, each $349 outright or offered as a rental, and Starlink says the V5 is “currently available in select areas”. starlink.com shows which dish and router come with the plan you pick once you’ve entered your address.

The router isn’t a permanent choice. Starlink lists both the V4 and the V5 as compatible with Router 2, Router 3 and Router Mini, so a house that outgrows Router Mini can add a Router 3 later.

The plan matters more than the dish. On Residential 100 and 200 Mbps, every current home dish has more peak speed than the plan uses, which is why the chooser starts from the plan and lets the address settle the dish.

Is a newer dish coming?

Nothing on starlink.com’s US plan cards or in Starlink’s V4-vs-V5 help article, both read Nov 4, 2026, announces another home dish. The help article says only that “As production ramps, Starlink V5 will be available in additional areas”, with no dates, and Starlink gives no date or price for any other home dish. The V5 also isn’t meant for use on the move, per Starlink, so travelers still choose between the Roam kits.

Buying new on starlink.com vs a used or older kit

A new kit ordered on starlink.com comes with two protections a used one may not:

  • A 30-day return. Starlink’s Terms of Service give an undamaged kit ordered on starlink.com 30 days to come back for a full refund, counted from the Payment Due Date. Shipping and handling stay unrefunded.
  • A 12-month limited warranty, which runs “12 months from the date of the original purchase on starlink.com”. On a used kit, that clock started with the first owner.

If you’re after the newest hardware, a used listing is the wrong place to look anyway: the dishes Starlink sells new today are the ones in the table above. The V5 vs V4 comparison covers how to choose between the two newest home dishes when your address offers both.

Skip the newest-model hunt if…

  • You already have a working Starlink dish. A newer dish doesn’t lift your plan’s speed range, so owning the latest model is no reason to reorder.
  • The plan is to save money on a used “newest” dish. Its warranty clock started with the first owner, and the 30-day full refund covers kits bought on starlink.com, so the savings come with less cover if something fails.

Questions

Is the V5 better than Standard 4 X?

On Starlink's spec sheets it's smaller, lighter and draws about half the power, with a slightly lower peak (375+ vs 400+ Mbps). Which one you get usually depends on your address.

Can I still buy a Gen 2 or Actuated dish new?

Not from starlink.com in the US: on Nov 4, 2026 the only home dishes offered were Standard 4 X, Standard 4 and V5. Older dishes turn up used, and Starlink's 12-month warranty runs from the original purchase on starlink.com.
